See below for message from Darren:
After many versions – I think we are final (I hope!!!) and ready to go for the weekend.
There is a chance that I may try to find another game or two but..as you can see it is pretty tight already and 33 games in approx 30 hours will be challenging in itself.
As we have said to the boys it is their responsibility to make sure they know when they are playing, where they are playing, and to be there 30 min prior to that game. Our jr teams are even split squads as are the sr teams with a few exceptions to the schedule when they play grade specific games.
Fri night will be a big night for the entire program but is definitely geared towards our gr 12 players and their families. Prior to the Fri Night Lights game there will be player announcements with each player coming thru the tunnel to greet their parents, come to center and receive flowers and a family pic. The game is set for 7:30 so we would like all families, etc to be prepared to start the proceedings for 7:15.
The student gov’t and hopefully entire student body are making this a special night selling tickets, trying to boost attendance and use as a fundraiser for KidSport. Please encourage friends, family, and alumni to come be a part of what has become a special evening for all. Prior to the gr 12 game will be a first ever Claremont girls match at 5pm followed by all other players having games at 6pm before the feature game. Wanting/Asking all Claremont families to do their best to support this one and all players to be a part of it. We are selling tickets to event at school for $3 per and then donation at the door.
Caroline Mace will once again (thank you) be putting together a volunteer schedule for ALL families to be a part of. This venture is far too big to ask the coaches and a handful of parents to do on their own. Moving equipment, tents, nets, etc as well as the scorekeeping and timing are all big jobs that we expect our families to take on. With 80+ players that gives us over 150 sets of hands to help. Please sign up when Caroline releases the schedule.
Weather says poor weather Tues and then after that it looks good so …cross fingers. Looking forward to lots of lacrosse next Fri and Sat and seeing everyone at the fields.
This week we are at the turf Mon, Tues, and Thur prepping for tourney.
The Claremont lacrosse team returned late Sunday night from the annual trip to Baltimore for the Towson Autumn Gold Showcase. Not a perfect weekend of play but pretty good. Probably should have been 7-1 but thru a series of scrimmages and exhibitions held in Baltimore the boys went 5-3.
Wonderful ambassadors (they travel very well!!), good play on the field, and maybe most importantly for some, likely the start of 12–15 young men gaining athletic scholarships to attend US universities and play NCAA lacrosse.
Big highlight of trip for the coaches was the ‘visit’ of 7 Apartan Alumni from a variety of US schools on the East coast coming to Baltimore to support the program and see their ‘old coaches’.
Some pictures are posted here – https://goo.gl/KGxpgj.
Mon and Tues are both lacrosse days at turf. Please drop off Gr 9/10 at turf for 8:45/50. Bussing arranged to get back to school for the jr class and sr class to turf at 10:30am.
Sr team travels to Baltimore and Washington Wed to Sunday. Permission forms handed out on Fri – would appreciate those and travel fees handed back tomorrow.
Wed-Fri will be a combination of P.E. and strength training for the week. Gr 10 guys will be getting their CPR and first aid certification Wed and Thur morning. They will need to be excused from Blk 2 both days and can use Friday’s class as makeup time.
Spartan Shootout – will try to get prelim schedule done this week as well as the splitting of teams so all can plan accordingly. Likely that is something that will happen next week for posting.
Keep the program ads coming in. Thx to all the guys for their help during the week setting up SCREAMFEST as well as so many of the guys who attended the event. Was a huge success and a great community event.
Hopefully the amazing weather continues this week.
Part of being a player in the Claremont Lacrosee Academy is taking part in community activities . The program to date has participated in 4 separate community events:
- Marshals for Royal Victoria Marathon
- Ambassadors for Terry Fox Run at Cordova Bay Elementary
- Assist in coaching and running a U-9 field lacrosse clinic
- Ambasadors at Cordova Bay Elementary Hoot and Howl Halloween event
Pictures from some of the events can be seen here: https://goo.gl/5AKhpF
Here are the notes and reminders for this week.
Turf – Hope weekends were good for all and the rains have hopefully subdued for a while – given the weather change and the fields being a little damp we will start with using the turf this week. From now until the jr teams trip to Seattle in early Dec we will have class/practice at Lochside turf every Tues and Thur (next week exchange Mon for Thur to prep for sr Baltimore trip). For the jr class guys are to be dropped off at the turf approx 8:45 for a 9:00 start. There were only 4 guys who said they needed rides to turf from school so they can come with me after I complete the morning fitness class (approx 8:45/8:50). Bussing has been arranged for the jr class to get a ride back to school and the sr class to the turf afterwards. The bus will leave the school at 10:30 so if guys are not moving quickly they will miss the class and will be considered absent.
Tracking forms – With term one coming to an end in early Nov and report cards approx the 3rd week of the month I have had the boys take ‘tracking forms’ with them to their other 3 classes to ensure they are on track, attendance is good and that their effort in class is their best. Those are due back tomorrow by all (if not they will not need their sticks on Tues if you know what I mean). Any issues or concerns with these and I’ll have your son bring home for you to see and sign. Hopefully few, or even better, none are needed to be sent home!
Equipment/Clothing – I think by now all have received what they should (still a few hoodies to come). If guys are missing anything or hoping to exchange still please have them see me (exchanges can’t have been worn). As well I have a few items left over if any parents want to purchase (all sold at cost) – there are black hoodies, 2 ladies grey UA hoodies, a few UA golf shirts, UA 1/4 zips, and a variety of t shirts if wanted. Let me know size and what and I’ll try to get back to you within 24 hrs as to what is left and how much.
Travel – sadly losing the sr San Jose was a huge disappointment but in nobody’s control at the end of the day. Looking into some options for the New year and hope to have an answer or two very soon as flights and hotels will need to be booked asap. Tournies in San Diego, Arizona, an Vegas are being considered. In the immediate future will be the focus of the sr Baltimore trip in 2 weeks and the Space Needle tourney for the jr team Dec 1-3.
Spartan Shootout (Nov 24/25) – we are approx a month away. I hope to have a preliminary schedule out by end of this week or early next. Please be prepared for the volunteer schedule to be sent by Caroline Mace – without parental help this tourney can NOT occur so help from all will be needed/expected. The program is being laid out and program ads are coming in. Keep those coming as this is a big fundraiser for the program.
SCREAMFEST – the school is undertaking a HUGE district and community event this Thur and Fri evening from 5:00-10:00. As well as being a big school initiative and community endeavour the possibility to fund raise for a variety of school programs (Lacrosse) is also a key component. As I’ve already said to the boys that if we are wanting school support for events like Friday Night Lights and the Shootout then its important that we are involved with other school ventures (and…I do think its going to be an excellent and scary event!!!!) Its been done at Lochside and Royal Oak in years past and this year Mr Ohl and I said we would take on the job of hosting at Claremont. Tickets are $10 each or $30 per family. Details also below. I hope to see all there.
