Hope everyone had a good weekend – was great to see so many at the fields Fri and Sat.

The 12th annual Spartan Shootout came to a close Sat at 6:00 and I think safe to say that it was a successful weekend both on and off the field – 16 games in total were played by Claremont teams and only one blemish thru all games and against a very good club team from Coquitlam.

Friday Night Lights was a big success for both the game and the ‘event’. Was fantastic to have so many involved from a school perspective with staff and students.Huge thanks to Mr Plant and the rest of the staff that helped make the event, the dancers and Ms G, as well as all the students. Was also a very good game and good win against a very good team from Mercer (and thx to them for their patience and willingness to participate in the game once again).

Was a wonderful way to honour our gr 12 players and their parents – we are very proud of them and all of their play that evening was a tribute to 4 years of hard work. A pic is attached of our graduating players. Hope that parents and players enjoyed the pre-game festivities as well as the game itself. Was a fantastic effort by all gr 12’s.

Huge thx to all parent volunteers – makes the tournament run and is a critical part of our hosting of the tournament. Special thx to Joni Philips for her help with UVic fields. I don’t want to miss any and appreciate the help, the sponsorship, the program, etc from all but…do want to recognize 3 ladies who continue to be integral components to a successful tournament. Once again thx to Caroline Mace for her amazing work organizing all the volunteers and jobs and two ladies who’s sons have graduated and do the work without having children in the program – thx to Michelle Glanfield for her work on the program and Cheryl Brown for her work with sponsorship and the organization of Friday Night Lights.

Onto this week – we are at the school for Mon and Wed and at the turf for Tues and Thur. Seattle prep for our jr program and a battle of the inter squad for our sr teams (currently tied at 1 each). Permission forms were given to all those going to Seattle this Fri – please send forms and $$ in tomorrow.

Any questions – let me know.

thx – Darren

Baltimore Trip 2017

The Claremont lacrosse team returned late Sunday night from the annual trip to Baltimore for the Towson Autumn Gold Showcase. Not a perfect weekend of play but pretty good. Probably should have been 7-1 but thru a series of scrimmages and exhibitions held in Baltimore the boys went 5-3.

Wonderful ambassadors (they travel very well!!), good play on the field, and maybe most importantly for some, likely the start of 12–15 young men gaining athletic scholarships to attend US universities and play NCAA lacrosse.

Big highlight of trip for the coaches was the ‘visit’ of 7 Apartan Alumni from a variety of US schools on the East coast coming to Baltimore to support the program and see their ‘old coaches’.

Hi all,

Here are the notes and reminders for this week.

Turf – Hope weekends were good for all and the rains have hopefully subdued for a while – given the weather change and the fields being a little damp we will start with using the turf this week. From now until the jr teams trip to Seattle in early Dec we will have class/practice at Lochside turf every Tues and Thur (next week exchange Mon for Thur to prep for sr Baltimore trip). For the jr class guys are to be dropped off at the turf approx 8:45 for a 9:00 start. There were only 4 guys who said they needed rides to turf from school so they can come with me after I complete the morning fitness class (approx 8:45/8:50). Bussing has been arranged for the jr class to get a ride back to school and the sr class to the turf afterwards. The bus will leave the school at 10:30 so if guys are not moving quickly they will miss the class and will be considered absent.

Tracking forms – With term one coming to an end in early Nov and report cards approx the 3rd week of the month I have had the boys take ‘tracking forms’ with them to their other 3 classes to ensure they are on track, attendance is good and that their effort in class is their best. Those are due back tomorrow by all (if not they will not need their sticks on Tues if you know what I mean). Any issues or concerns with these and I’ll have your son bring home for you to see and sign. Hopefully few, or even better, none are needed to be sent home!

Equipment/Clothing – I think by now all have received what they should (still a few hoodies to come). If guys are missing anything or hoping to exchange still please have them see me (exchanges can’t have been worn). As well I have a few items left over if any parents want to purchase (all sold at cost) – there are black hoodies, 2 ladies grey UA hoodies, a few UA golf shirts, UA 1/4 zips, and a variety of t shirts if wanted. Let me know size and what and I’ll try to get back to you within 24 hrs as to what is left and how much.

Travel – sadly losing the sr San Jose was a huge disappointment but in nobody’s control at the end of the day. Looking into some options for the New year and hope to have an answer or two very soon as flights and hotels will need to be booked asap. Tournies in San Diego, Arizona, an Vegas are being considered. In the immediate future will be the focus of the sr Baltimore trip in 2 weeks and the Space Needle tourney for the jr team Dec 1-3.

Spartan Shootout (Nov 24/25) – we are approx a month away. I hope to have a preliminary schedule out by end of this week or early next. Please be prepared for the volunteer schedule to be sent by Caroline Mace – without parental help this tourney can NOT occur so help from all will be needed/expected. The program is being laid out and program ads are coming in. Keep those coming as this is a big fundraiser for the program.

SCREAMFEST – the school is undertaking a HUGE district and community event this Thur and Fri evening from 5:00-10:00. As well as being a big school initiative and community endeavour the possibility to fund raise for a variety of school programs (Lacrosse) is also a key component. As I’ve already said to the boys that if we are wanting school support for events like Friday Night Lights and the Shootout then its important that we are involved with other school ventures (and…I do think its going to be an excellent and scary event!!!!) Its been done at Lochside and Royal Oak in years past and this year Mr Ohl and I said we would take on the job of hosting at Claremont. Tickets are $10 each or $30 per family. Details also below. I hope to see all there.
